Badlands is home to one of the largest federal bison herds in North America. In 1963, two truckloads carrying 25 bison each traveled from Theodore Roosevelt National Park to the Badlands.
New Photo Gallery: Yellowstone Bull Elk
Yellowstone provides summer range for an estimated 10,000–20,000 elk (Cervus canadensis) from six to seven herds, most of which winter at lower elevations outside the park.
Bulls have antlers, which begin growing in the spring and usually drop in March or April of the following year. Bull elk begin growing their first set of antlers when they are about one year old.
Growing antlers are covered with a thick, fuzzy coating of skin commonly referred to as “velvet.”
New Photo Gallery: Buffalo Valley Road Moose
The drive follows along the Buffalo River, heading through to the Teton Wilderness and the park. Varied trailheads are found along the route, which stretches some fourteen miles.
About 9 miles into the trip I came around a curve with a small hill to my right. Before I could stop and grab my camera two juvenile male moose bounded up the hill pass me.

PALO DURO CANYON SP PHOTO GALLERY
https://francescascalpi.com/#/palo-dura/
In planning the cross country trip I wanted to go to some off-the-beaten parks. Palo Duro Canyon is the 2nd largest canyon after the Grand Canyon. Driving Van Diesel down the mail road with a descent of some 800 feet to the canyon floor was thrilling.
The gallery includes a sunset the day we arrived and the sunrise the next morning when we left.
A major storm came into the park the day after we left.
New Photo Gallery: Yellowstone Black Bear Sow and Cub
This Black bear and her cub where seen along the East Entrance near Sylvan Pass.
New Photo Gallery: Landscapes of Grand Teton National Park
The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone were our last major stop on our return cross country trip.
During the trip we were chased by forest fires, tornadoes, hail, snow, high winds and hail.
This was our first big trip in our 2022 Sprinter Van we named “Van Diesel”. We stayed in RV, state and National Park campgrounds, with friends and family and a resort in Jackson Wyoming.
The Grand Teton range and area was stunning in its majesty and wildlife.

New Gallery: Sedlec Bone Church
The Cemetery Church was a part of the oldest Cistercian monastery in Bohemia founded in 1142. A unique Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady and St. John the Baptist nearby (a UNESCO-listed sight since 1995) and a former baroque convent (a seat of a tobacco factory since 1812) were also preserved.
Beautiful Oregon Coast near Bandon 2021
You would think living on the Sonoma coast you would not need to visit other coastal areas. I love visiting the Oregon coast with its sea stacks and sandy dunes.
