PALO DURO CANYON STATE PARK

Palo Duro Canyon SP Photo 1

Grand Canyon of Texas

The rugged Palo Duro Canyon, the nation’s second largest such gorge, located in the High Plains of the Texas Panhandle, is home to one of the Lone Star State's largest state parks (some 28,978 acres).

The park opened in 1934 before it was complete. It is the second largest park in the state parks system today, with about 28,000 acres
It was formed by millions of years of water erosion by the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River and the West Texas wind.
