HUMBOLDT REDWOODS STATE PARKS

Humboldt Redwoods spans 53,000 acres, an area almost twice the size of San Francisco. About one third, or 17,000 acres, of the park is old-growth redwood forest—the largest expanse of ancient redwoods left on the planet. This park offers one of the best places to see redwoods by car in the entire North Coast region: the 32-mile-long Avenue of the Giants.
We stayed in both Albee Creek Campground and Hidden Springs. We could not get reservation for the Burlington Campground next to the visitors center. We preferred Albee over Hidden Springs.
Photos are from the The Big Trees and Founders’ Grove.
Albee Creek Campground is located 5 miles west of the Avenue of the Giants on Mattole Road, in the western portion of Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Most of the sites are in the deep shade of small second-growth redwoods, while a few sites are at the edge of a sunny meadow with nice views of the redwood-carpeted hills.
Hidden Springs Campground is located on the Avenue of the Giants, approximately 1 mile south of Myers Flat and 5 miles south of the Visitor Center. Hidden Springs has 137 sites in a mixed forest setting, offering privacy.
